With each cycle of grant awards, CBCRP takes another step toward our mission: to eliminate breast cancer by leading innovative research, communication, and collaboration in California’s scientific and lay communities. 

CBCRP Breast Cancer Research Funding

CBCRP funded researchers have forged new paths in the breast cancer field. Researchers, clinicians and advocates have leveraged CBCRP funding opportunities and award types to advance of understanding of breast cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and community impact.

Funding in 2025

In 2025, CBCRP granted over $10 million in research awards, which will be performed at 24 research institutions and community organizations across the state. View the entire list of 2025 funded grants in our  Compendium of Awards.

Tax check-off awards

These awards include grants supported in part by Californians who contributed to the California Breast Cancer Research Fund on their state income tax forms. The projects that funded by these contributions in 2025 are:

Faith Fancher Award

Faith Fancher was a long-time television news anchor with KTVU (Oakland) who publicly battled breast cancer while raising visibility and support for CBCRP. Each year, select grants receive the Faith Fancher Award, honoring projects that reflect the values Faith championed and extend her work for all women facing breast cancer. The award recipient in 2025 is:

Lisa Goldman Rosas at Stanford University and Starla Gay at Roots Community Health Center for the community research collaboration project: Culturally Tailored Food is Medicine for Black/African American Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors.
