Policy Research Awards

CBCRP Policy Research Initiatives are applying what we know now about breast cancer to make informed policies.

The purpose of the Policy Initiative is to fund directed policy research on issues related to the prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancer, as well as research into the formulation of policy alternatives that will reduce the incidence of and/or morbidity and mortality from breast cancer in California. The goal is to allow breast cancer-related policy changes to be grounded in science that is timely, relevant, and credible.

CBCRP allocates $260,000 annually for research that addresses breast cancer-related policy issues in California. A Policy Research Advisory Group identifies key policy areas that deserve further investigation. The first CBCRP Policy Initiative ran from 2015-2022. Two teams, selected through an open peer-reviewed competition, were on-call, poised to conduct rapid-response policy research projects to inform emergent breast cancer relevant policy.  In August 2022, CBCRP redesigned the Policy Initiative to establish an open call for each research question.
